Old Weller Antique 107 review

Old Weller Antique
107 Proof
This bourbon is one of my favorites, I will tell you right now. First, if you know me you know I like my bourbon neat. Basically bourbon and glass, nothing else. This one I started to enjoy by accident.  There was a time when me and some friends would drink brown liquor at half time of Patriots games to help boost their mojo. One time a friend brought a bottle of a lesser Old Weller and we had that. This was prior to me acknowledging the fact that I love bourbon. So we always joked that that Old Weller helped the Patriots get to the Super Bowl that year. And maybe it did. So years later I am in a store and I see the Old Weller Antique 107. I thought for $20 it should be better than the other one we had. Well, to say the least I was right. This is fantastic.
This bourbon is bottled by my friends at Buffalo Trace, and is aged 7 years. This is a great bourbon for someone who can’t afford the higher end bourbons. This is about $20 and is worth every cent. I have had a few of these and one could say this is one of my house bourbons. Now for my review.
When I stick my rather large nose into one of my Waterford crystal glasses I get a good wiff of 107 proof booze. No, just kidding, I get a good taste of oak, sugary sweet vanilla liquorish and down home goodness. The look is a nice medium amber color and is fairly light on the glass.
Ok, now for its taste. This bourbon has a good burn, 107 proof, and a sweet but slightly spicy taste to it. You can feel the warm going down, but it doesn’t linger. The fact it is aged 7 years helps with that. But I would avoid breathing on an open flame right after you take a snort.
So I decided to throw an ice cube in for shits and giggles. Here is what I think with that. One ice cube really mellows this out. The burn is gone but the flavors are still there. The nose is not much different either except that it has a slight chill to it.
As I have already said, this is one of my favorite bourbons. It is reasonably priced and has fantastic flavor. I would recommend this to all of my friends, which I do, and I have actually recommended it to some strangers at the local liquor store and have run into them again and they said it was worth the money. I don’t know if this would be for the new bourbon drinker, just because it does have a good burn. But once they get used to that they will enjoy this one. I would also add that this is GREAT with a good cigar.
I rate this, a must have in my collection.
