Nor'Easter bourbon

Nor’Easter Bourbon 88.8 proof

Triple Eight Distillery, Nantucket MA

Yes, you read that right. This is from Nantucket Ma. Triple 888 was founded by Dean and Melissa Long in 1997, and named for the water source, well #888, on Nantucket. Currently what you get is a distillate they purchased from a distillery in Kentucky and they age it and bottle it on island. This is common for distilleries that are trying to get up and running. They began selling their Vodka while they waited for their other whiskey to age. I recently found out they will be bottling their own Bourbon in about 3 years.

When I heard it was aged on the island I decided that I needed to get a bottle and give it a try. I thought how the sea air must give it a unique taste.

My first taste was exciting. I had no idea what bourbon from Nantucket could taste like and would it be good? Yes, it was. It has a nice sweet, warm caramel taste with a nice oaky taste. It was different in that I swear I could hear seagulls squawking from the open bottle. Just kidding, but I do think it had a extra smooth light taste to it. I will credit that to the sea air.

At 88.8 proof, this is not too strong. It had a nice nose, not too hot that it burned you nose hairs. It was light and sweet. But still strong enough to remind you of what you’re drinking.

I really enjoyed this bottle and look forward to getting more. I think it is a great bourbon to have around for the everyday drink and at around $25 it won’t break the bank either. Just a small dent. Like I said earlier, in 3 years they will be selling their own bourbon distilled on the island, so I have it marked on my calendar to look for some more then. In the meantime I will continue to enjoy what they have now.

Sometime in the near future I plan to visit the island and tour the distillery and brewery (Cisco Brewers). I will take pictures to share.

Enjoy!!
